Fans of Irish Baseball were out in full force on August 20, 2017, to show their support for the Irish Junior National Baseball Team. Players and coaches from the team were on hand to meet fans and discuss their recent gold medal performance at the European Championship Qualifier Tournament in Zurich, Switzerland.

Ireland won the gold medal by going an undefeated 4-0 in pool play — defeating Belgium, Switzerland, Poland and Russia — before defeating Belgium in the gold medal game by a score of 12-0. Over the course of five games, Ireland outscored opponents by a score of 65-17.

During the event, Irish pitching coach Gary O’Connor received a plaque from the local Woodlean Boys and Girls Club, in recognition of his longtime volunteer work to coach youth baseball in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx. Coach O’Connor is currently the assistant coach at Fordham Prep HS in the Bronx.
