MLB umpire supervisor Larry Young spent this past weekend in Ireland, training aspiring Irish umpires. The clinics were part of the Baseball United Foundation‘s ongoing Baseball Exchange initiative with Baseball Ireland. Young, who spent 22 seasons as an MLB umpire worked with the Irish umpires in the classroom and in a simulated game setting in a GAA hall in Ashbourne, County Meath. Last summer, Conor Santoianni roamed the outfield for the 18U Irish Junior National Baseball Team. During Ireland’s historic gold medal run, Santoianni played centerfield and batted at or near the top of the lineup in all five games. It was a good week for Irish Baseball! On November 8, 2017, Irish Junior National Team pitcher Mark Neville signed a National Letter of Intent with Marist College. Marist College, located on the banks of the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie, NY, was founded in 1905. The baseball team competes in the MAAC conference (Division-I).
